Vexilologické společnosti a aktivity

Some introducing words
The idea to create the Vexillological Lexicon you are keeping in your hands came into being in 1993. I went from the assumption that the Czech vexillological literature was not very extensive (and because Czech is not world language it shall never be more important) and that some information concerning the activities of flag organisations would never been published in any Czech book or bulletin. It is the task of this Vexillological Lexikon to try to fill this gap. It was necessary to analyze and evaluate a considerable quantity of documents. Unfortunately I had often no access to them.
After the General Assembly of the Vexilologický klub in Prague where I spoke about my intention, Jiří Tenora made the offer of assistance. With this moment the possibility to elaborate a lexikon was going to be actual. During the 15th ICV in Zurich, in summer 1993,. I spoke about the lexikon and the need of information with several participants. Scot Guenter, the then president of NAVA, stimulated my efforts and offered help concerning information about North America. Here the idea sprang up to start a questionary campaign which would enable to get authorized tips about foreign societies.
End of 1993 I sent with help of some members of the board of Vexilologický klub questionaries to nearly thirty addresses through the world with the inquiry to get headwords concerning the societies´ life, activities, symbols, bulletins and active personalities. Unfortunately -- inspite of reminder -- not every form came back so that some headwords are either very short and the appropriate figures are missing or they are omitted at all. The systematical cooperation with Jiří Tenora began in 1994. The Czech bulletin of Vexilologický klub VEXILOLOGIE was a very important source of knowledges because it informs regularly about the vexillological activities through the world since 1971. Articles scattered in 100 issues were a solid basis for many keywords. We found very much hints in bulletins of foreign flag societies and directly from many flag friends in the whole world.
We asked some members of Vexilologický klub and some fellows abroad to write certain headwords or to deliver documenst for topics to which they were closely connected with.
We would like to ackowledge first of all to Aleš Brožek for the reliability of his articles and notices about vexillological activities which he published in VEXILOLOGIE. Ludvík Mucha, president of Vexilologický klub and other members of the Klub board made possible to write catchwords pertaining Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic respectively. Karel Černý is the author of some paragraphs about the Scandinavian vexillology which were difficult to assemble otherwise.
Jiří Tenora succeeded during 16th ICV in Warsaw in 1995 to gain additional precious information from several congress participants. So it was possible to proceed in december 1996 to the final computer redaction of the text. It was also necessary to draw all figures and prepare dummy pages for the print.
The result of this work? You are keeping it in your hands.
